DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Studies with tetracycline-HCl [64-75-5], oxytetracycline-HCl [2058-46-0] kanamycin sulfate [25389-94-0], streptomycin sulfate [3810-74-0], oleandomycin phosphate [7060-74-4], ristomycin sulfate [11140-99-1], and gentamycin sulfate [1405-41-0] showed that antibiotics are adsorbed on membrane filters during the filtration process. The amt. of adsorbed antibiotic could be decreased, but not eliminated, by an increased vol. of rinsing liq. Immersing of the filters in thioglycol medium or insertion on an agar surface counteracted the effect of adsorbed antibiotics on sensitive bacteria, permitting sowing of these microbes on the filter. .
