The Ti and Fe were removed, and Nb and Ta sepd. by extn. with 4% trioctylamine [1116-76-3] in kerosine equilibrated with 1 N HF. Ta >90% was transferred to the org. phase in a single stage and was purified by countercurrent scrubbing with 2 N H2SO4. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) The effects of minor-component phospholipids, sterols, Me3NO [1184-78-7] and trioctylamine (TOA) [1116-76-3] on the stabilization of g-tocopherol (g-Toc) [7616-22-0] were investigated during the autoxidn. of Me linoleate (ML) [112-63-0]. On autoxidn. of lard contg. g-Toc and Me3NO, g-Toc was rapidly oxidized and decreased to the 50-60% level in the initial stage of reaction. After that, the total amts. of g-Toc and its reducing dimers, g-Toc di-Ph ether dimer and the atropisomers g-Toc biphenyl dimer (H) and g-Toc biphenyl dimer (L), formed from oxidized g-Toc, were maintained at higher level for a longer time. Thus, the presence of minor components contribute to the stability of g-Toc. Therefore, 3-component synergism involving g-toc, Me3NO and each phospholipid was tested using ML as substrate. Accordingly, phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidic acid showed a marked synergistic effect; PS esp. inhibited the oxidn. of g-Toc. More than 0.2% PE was found to keep a const. level of the residual amt. of g-Toc and to retard the formation of g-Toc biphenyl dimers, which are preferential in the presence of Me3NO. Phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylglycerol and sterols did not show such an effect. However, PC synergized with TOA for stabilizing g-Toc in autoxidizing ML.
