APPLICATION: DE 76-2603258 29 Jan 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Nitrocyclohexane [1122-60-7] or MeNO2 [75-52-5] was added to acrylonitrile (I) copolymers to give lightly-colored copolymers which kept their light tones upon exposure to heat. The nitro compd. may be added before, during, or after the polymn. Thus, I 50, styrene 50, MeNO2 0.4, and AIBN 0.1 parts were polymd. between glass plates for 22 h at 45.degree. and for 2 h at 100.degree. to give yellowish plates of polymer (II) [9003-54-7]. Heating II at 150.degree. for 30 min caused only a minor increase in color intensity; a similar II prepd. in the absence of MeNO2 was clearly yellow after polymn and strongly yellow after heating.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The addn. 0.1-2.0% of a nitroalkane to acrylonitrile (I) polymers prevented discoloration and yellowing of molded products on heating. A mixt. of I 75, Me methacrylate 25, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate 0.2, nitromethane [75-52-5] 0.1, and dilauroyl peroxide 0.2 part was kept 22 h at 45.degree. and the polymer was molded in 2 h at 100. The product remained clear and colorless after molding and after 30 min at 150.degree.. .
