DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The stability of vitamin A acetate (I) [127-47-9] in oil solns. depended on the type of oil used, the initial concn. of I, and the identity and concn. of antioxidant added to the soln. The stability of I, as detd. by a 50% decrease in the initial I concn., was 5 times greater in corn oil then in sunflower oil, was greater in unrefined oil than in refined oil of the same species, and was always highest in freshly prepd. oils. I stability in soybean oils varied inversely with the initial vitamin concn. (the period of 50% degrdn. was 30, 9, 5, 4, and 3.5 days for initial I concns. of 1.5 .times. 104, 10 .times. 104, 20 .times. 104, 30 .times. 104, and 50 .times. 104 units/g. resp.). The antioxidative activity of certain compds. in 0.02% concns. for I in oils solns. decreased in the order diludine [1149-23-1], ascorbyl palmitate [137-66-6], butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) [128-37-0], Pr gallate [121-79-9], BHT and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) [25013-16-5] (1:1), santoquin [91-53-2], and BHA.

I prevented the accumulation of defects in DNA secondary structure. Ambunol [2226-97-3] (20 mg/kg) and dimethyl-di-(p-phenylaminophenoxy)silane [15325-29-8] (50 mg/kg) were ineffective as life-extenders. .
