AMN SSSR: Moscow, USSR. (Russian) 1982. CODEN: 50NVAP. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Increasing F content decreased, whereas Cl increased, the toxicity of the title fluorochloroethylene monomers. Max. permissible levels are: difluorodichloroethylene (I) [79-35-6], 1; trifluorochloroethylene [79-38-9], 5; and tetrafluoroethylene [116-14-3], 20 mg/m3 air. The threshold of chronic I toxicity to unidentified exptl. animals was 0.2-1.26 mg/m3. Chronic toxicity of the title compds. caused a more severe dystrophy in the kidneys than in the central nervous system and liver. .

CLASS: IC: C07C143-06; C07C143-70; C07C147-02; C07C147-06; C07C149-14; C07C149-32. APPLICATION: JP 83-83781 13 May 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Title acid derivs. RSOnCF2CF2COR1 I (R = Et, Me, Cl, F; n = 0, 2; R1 = OMe, F, Cl), useful as starting compds. for fluorinated cation-exchange membranes, were prepd. from C2F4 [116-14-3]. Thus, C2F4 was introduced into 250 g EtSNa [811-51-8] and 530 g (MeO)2CO [616-38-6] in THF at 15° to give 520 g I (R = Et, n = 0, R1 = OMe) [77705-85-2]. The ester was hydrolyzed with aq. NaOH and the acid heated with SF4, NaF, and 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane in an autoclave at 80° for 4 h to give I (R = Et, n = 0, R1 = F) [77705-88-5], which was treated with hexafluoropropylene oxide [428-59-1] and the product passed over Na2CO3 at 190° to give EtS(CF2)3OCF:CF2 [77416-78-5]. The monomer was copolymd. with C2F4, made into a film, and the EtS group oxidized with Cl into ClSO2 and hydrolyzed to give a SO3H-contg. cation-exchange membrane.Except for chemicals metioned above, 616-38-6 and 77705-91-0 are also used. .
