DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) The detn. of Young's modulus of coke and its temp. dependence are given. The Young's modulus of metallurgical coke at ambient temp. was 1-10 GN/m2. All coke specimens showed an increase of modulus with increasing temp., similar to that of graphite [7782-42-5], but cokes prepd. on the lab. scale showed behavior similar to that of the nongraphitic dibenzanthrone [116-71-2] C. Since the lab.-prepd. cokes and C are cooled, not quenched, they have fewer cracks available for closure during reheating so that the changes in Young's modulus with temp. are much smaller. The resultant mechanism at any instance is thus dependent on the relative magnitude of the crack-closure process (increasing rigidity) and the normal decrease with increasing thermal agitation.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 38 (Plastics Fabrication and Uses) The addn. of alkali metal halides and oxides, carbon black, dibenzanthrone (I) [116-71-2], Cu phthalocyanine (II) [147-14-8], and indigo [482-89-3] to Izokol 104 (III) [9068-94-4] and Izokol 16 (IV) [9068-96-6] polyurethane contact adhesives increased initial bond strength between 2 Al substrates or between natural leather and various synthetic polymer substrates from 23-300% and 19-100% for III and IV, resp., due to increasing degree of crystn. in the polymer adhesives. Esp. high degrees of crystn. and initial bond strengths were obtained with TiO2, I, and II. Almost all of the seeding additives increased the degree of crystn. Alkali metal halides and oxides (except TiO2) had little effect on bond strength of either adhesive.
