DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 25 In connection with the electrochem. redn. of 1-nitro-3,6,8-naphthalenetrisulfonic acid (I) [38267-31-1] for obtaining the corresponding 1-amino-3,6,8-naphthalenetrisulfonic acid (II) [117-42-0], electrolysis in concd. H2SO4 was studied. The corrosion resistance of cathode materials during cathodic polarization (c.d. 10~20 A/dm2) and without current was studied using different materials (steel EI-417, Ti, Pb, Al, graphite, Cu,Ni, EI-943, Sn,Ag, Pb + 1% Ag) and an anode of Pt of the same size. The corrosion rate of the electrode materials slows down with time. The greatest corrosion in a soln. of II was experienced by Al and Ti, and in I by Al. The steel EI-943 and Pb differ by their high corrosion resistance in solns. of I and II in the absence of cathodic polarization. The most appropriate cathode material for the electrosynthesis of II is Pb. .
