DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) An LC-ESI-MS anal. was performed to det. the iridoid compn. of Lamium album, Lamium amplexicaule, Lamium garganicum, Lamium maculatum, and Lamium purpureum. Nine iridoids known to occur in these species, lamalbid, sesamoside, lamiol, 5-deoxylamiol, shanzhiside Me ester, caryoptoside, penstemoside, lamioside, and barlerin, could be detected. Confident identification of the individual compds. was achieved by a combination of HPLC retention times, both pos. and neg. ionization modes in MS and the presence of cluster and fragment ions. Iridoid glucosides new to four of the studied species were reported here for the first time. In most cases, the obsd. There are some commonly used reagents with their cas registry numbers 81203-55-6 and 117479-87-5 in this article. iridoid profiles were consistent and only small intraspecific variations were detected. Some chemosystematic implications from the obsd. iridoid compn. were discussed. .
