- [Passive] coupling reagents for chromatographic detection of diazotizable aromatic compounds (particularly aminobenzophenones; hydrolysis products of benzodiazepine tranquilizers). Mueller, R. K.; Lauermann, I. (Inst. Gerichtl. Med., Karl-Marx-Univ., Leipzig, Ger. Dem. Rep.). Krim. Forensische Wiss., (53-54), 184-7 (German) 1984. CODEN: KRFWAG. ISSN: 0023-4702. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 1 Twenty benzene or naphthalene derivs. contg. 1-4 OH- and(or) NH2- and(or) SO3H-groups were coupled (i.e., sprayed as 0.2% EtOH solns.) with 2-amino-5-chlorbenzophenone or 2-amino-5-nitrobenzophenone (acid hydrolysis products of chlordiazepoxide [58-25-3] or nitrazepam [146-22-5], resp.) which were applied on TLC silica gel plates and diazotated by NO-NO2 in gas phase. Most intense red or violet colors were obtained with these 6 naphthalene derivs.: 1-amino-7-naphthol [118-46-7], 5-amino-1-naphthol [83-55-6], 1-aminonaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid [84-86-6], 1-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid [84-89-9], 1-aminonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid [82-75-7], and 1-amino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid [90-20-0]. 1-Naphthylamine and 2-naphthylamine were also suitable for the detection but are not recommended because of their high carcinogenicity. The sensitivity of all the 8 reagents was equal to or better than that of A. C. Bratton- E. K. Marshall (1939) reagent [N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine]for the detection of the aminobenzophenones on TLC. Sensitivity of the detection was £1 mg aminobenzophenone/cm2.
