- Strain of Corynebacterium fascians and its use in reducing limonoid bitterness in citrus products. Hasagawa, S. (United States Dept. of Agriculture, USA). U. S. Pat. Appl. 37325-58-9 and 1063-77-0 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article. US 456954 A0 17 Feb 1984, 17 pp. Avail. NTIS Order No. PAT-APPL-6-456 954. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: XAXXAV. APPLICATION: US 83-456954 10 Jan 1983. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 16 Bitterness in citrus juice is reduced by treatment with C. fascians which can metabolize bitter limonoids. Thus, C. fascians was grown on 500 mL mineral medium contg. 0.2% fructose [57-48-7], and the cells (3.5 g) were collected and added to 14 mL saline. The suspension was added to a mixt. of acrylamide and cofactors and polyacrylamide [9003-05-8] gel was allowed to form. The gel was blended and added to a column, and the serum of navel orange, valencia orange, and grapefruit juices was passed through. The limonin [1180-71-8] content was reduced by 380%. .
- Seasonal changes of limonoids in the component parts of several citrus fruits
- Seasonal changes of limonoids in the component parts of several citrus fruits. Hashinaga, F.; Itoo, S. (Fac. Agric., Kagoshima Univ., Korimoto 890, Japan). Proc. Int. Soc. Citric., Volume Date 1981, 2, 901-5 (English) 1983. CODEN: PICIDM. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 11 Limonoids were extd. from fruits sampled at monthly intervals with CH2Cl2 and analyzed by TLC with a chromatoscanner. More limonin [1180-71-8] was present in the segment membrane of Wase satsuma mandarin than in the peel and flesh at immature stages, but it decreased rapidly during maturation. Limonin was the major limonoid in the peel of Ponkan (Citrus reticulata) and the flesh of kumquat as well as in all component parts of C. natsudaidai, and C. 1063-77-0 and 989-23-1 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. hassaku, and the 2nd most predominant limonoid was nomilin [1063-77-0]. However, pummelo (except flavedo), Kabosu, and the seed and segment membrane of both Ponkan and C. tankan always had higher nomilin content than limonin. These limonoids showed a rapid increase in developing seeds, whereas they declined rapidly in the segment membrane of these fruits during maturation. The nomilin content reached a max. level 1 mo earlier than did that of limonin. The kernel of the seeds of pummelo contained more limonoids than the seed coat. Deoxylimonin [989-23-1] content in pummelo and Kabosu fruits was the 3rd highest, after nomilin and limonin. Changes in limonoid content in stored fruit showed similarity to those of fruits on the tree. Treatment of trees with ethephon [16672-87-0] reduced the nomilin content in kumquat seeds. .
