Solubility: Osmium(IV) oxide (CAS NO.12036-02-1) do not dissolve in water, but are soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid.
Osmium(IV) oxide (CAS NO.12036-02-1) can be obtained by reacting osmium with osmium tetroxide or nitric oxide at about 600 °C. Careful control of the growth process (Chemical transport reaction) over a week-long period allows obtaining brown-colored, single crystals of OsO2 sized up to 7x5x3 mm3.
Brown or black crystals. Amorphous form can explode spontaneously in air. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Os. See also OSMIUM and OSMIUM TETROXIDE.
