DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 58 (Cement and Concrete Products) The effect of the nature of the nature of original components, additives, impurities, and conditions of firing on the synthesis rate of C3S [12168-85-3], .beta.-C2S [10034-77-2], C3A [12042-78-3], and C4AF [12068-35-8] was studied. The formation rate of .beta.-C2S was faster with Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and SiO2 than with CaCO3 and SiO2. A firing temp. of 1400-1500.degree. was optimum for the synthesis of C3S. Some Cr compds. accelerate the formation of C3S and .beta.-C2S. The synthesis o C3S from C2S was more complete when .gamma.-C2S was used. Fluorides accelerate the mineral formation of C3A and C4AF. .
