The Mg-treated ferroalloy was leached with a 100% excess of 0.2 N HCl at 100.degree. for 10-30 min. The content of S and P in the purified alloy was .ltoreq.0.02% each. A 400-500% excess of Mg or a 2500-3000 excess of Ca over their stoichiometric amts. are necessary for binding S and P as MgS [12032-36-9] and Mg3P2 [12057-74-8] or CaS [20548-54-3] and Ca3P2 [1305-99-3]. The grain size of the ferrochromium to be purified should be <0.315 mm. .
