DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 65 (General Physical Chemistry) The sublimation of HgTe [12068-90-5] occurs according to the process HgTe(s) ? Te(s) + Hg(g). The Hg pressures were measured by the torsion-effusion method at 478-576 K. From comparison with the literature data, the temp. dependence of the Hg pressure can be expressed by the equation log P(kPa) = 8.18 - 5700/T. By treating the results by 2nd and 3rd laws the av. DH298° = 105 ± 4 kJ/mol, assocd. with the vaporization process, was derived. Comparison of the DH2980 values obtained by the 2 laws shows that until the 1st step of the vaporization the solid Te residue can be considered to have near unit activity. The std. heat of formation of HgTe, -4.4 kJ/mol, was derived.
