DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) A study was conducted to investigate the effect of the application of summer machine oil emulsion during the summer on the control of various insects on apple trees. The mortality of European red mite, two-spotted spider mite, and aphids was higher with summer machine oil emulsion application in comparison with nonsprayed controls, though it was less effective than applied com. insecticides. The quality of the fruit sprayed with machine oil was poor owing to oil odor residue. The severity of this poor taste increased as the time of application became nearer to the harvest and as the concn. of summer machine oil emulsion was increased. The photosynthetic rate of the leaves treated with summer machine oil emulsion was reduced compared to the control as the time of application was delayed and as the concns. of summer machine oil emulsion was increased. The chem. injury of leaves and fruits was induced by mixed use of summer machine oil emulsion with Thalonil [1897-45-6] wettable powder or Bordeaux mixt. [8011-63-0], but no chem. injury was found in the leaves sprayed by the mixt. of summer machine oil emulsion with Mancozi [8018-01-7], Captan [133-06-2] or Propi [12071-83-9]. The effectiveness of summer machine oil emulsion is best when sprayed 2-3 times from 20 days after petal fall to the 25th of July with 500-times the concn. of the product in water.

The best treatments were iprodione and vinclozolin.
