Monodentate (1a-c) (shown as I; R = G1 (1a), R = G2 (1b), R = G3 (1c)) and bidentate ligands (5a,c) (shown as II; R = G1 (5a), R = G2 (5b)) were synthesized from bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)phenylphosphine oxide (3) and 1,2-bis(dichlorophosphino)ethane, resp., in high yields. The defect-free monodisperse nature of these compds. was confirmed by 31P NMR and elemental anal. as well as by ESI mass spectra. Complexation of these ligands with PtCl2(COD) followed by NaBH4 redn. in a THF/H2O mixt. gave Pt(0) complexes PtL3 10a,b (having 1a,b as monodentate ligands (L)) and Pt(L-L)2 (13a,b) (5a,b as bidentate ligands (L-L)), resp.
