- Results of the study of the cytogenetic activity of some pesticides. Pilinskaya, M. A.; Kurinnyi, A. I.; Kondratenko, T. I. (Vses. Nauchno-Issled. Inst. Gig. Toksikol. Pestits., Polim. Plast. Mass, Kiev, USSR). Mol. Mekh. Genet. Protsessov, 295-9. Edited by: Dubinin, N. P. "Nauka": Moscow, USSR. (Russian) 1976. CODEN: 34XDAP. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Of 13 pesticides administered to mice orally or by topical application, TMTD [137-26-8], ziram (I) [137-30-4], and 2,4-D [94-75-7] induced the highest frequency of chromosomal aberrations in the bone marrow. Phthalophos [732-11-6], chlorophos [52-68-6], P-203 (phenoxyacetic acid diethylamide) [25667-42-9], and Carboxid [8070-50-6] were the next strongest mutagens. Tests on human lymphocytes exposed to TMTD, I, zineb [12122-67-7], chlorophos, and Carboxid showed a direct correlation between the cytotoxic and mutagenic activities of these pesticides. Among workers employed in the manuf. of TMTD, I, and zineb, the av. incidence of lymphocytes with chromosomal damage was 8.85, 5.9, and 5.98%, resp. This compares with 4.0-14.0% among workers exposed to other pesticides and 0.75-1.0% in the general population.

- Fungicidal control of rice blast. Singh, Gurdip; Chohan, J. S.; Sandhu, K. S. (Dep. Plant Pathol., Punjab Agric. Univ., Ludhiana, India). Indian Phytopathol., 28(3), 422-3 (English) 1975. CODEN: IPHYAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Of several fungicides and antibiotics evaluated, Hinosan [17109-49-8] (0.1% sprayed 3 times at 2-week intervals) best controlled rice blast (Piricularia oryzae) on rice. Hinosan caused a disease redn. of 61.7 and 64.2% and a yield increase of 15 and 19.8% during 2 years. Bla S [2079-00-7], Ceresan [107-27-7], Aureo-fingin [8065-41-6], zineb (I) [12122-67-7], Blitox [1332-40-7], benomyl [17804-35-2], and ziram [137-30-4] were also effective in controlling the disease and increasing the rice yield.
