DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 76 (Electric Phenomena) The thermoelec. behavior of the chem. collapsed Sm0.8Tb0.2S system was studied from -200.degree. to +200.degree.. The black phase obtained after the explosive phase transformation at -170.degree. (the B'-phase) appears to be distinct from the normal black phase (B-phase). The data are discussed in terms of the model of L. L. Hirst (1970). The Sm ions in the collapsed phase rapidly undergo interconfigurational fluctuations between isoenergetic states. Application of pressure or temp. produces a variation in the amt. of fractional valence. .
