DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 71 (Nuclear Technology) The radioactive H3PO4 [7664-38-2] soln. is brought in contact with Ca(OH)2 [1305-62-0] to produce a ppt. of Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 [12167-74-7] which is extremely insol. in water. The ppt. is then sepd., dried, crushed and mixed with portland cement and water to form a concrete mix. The mix is then cast in the desired shape. 12167-74-7 and 7664-38-2 are also in the experiment. Thus, 6% H3PO4 waste soln. was spiked with 200 mCi/L 60Co. The soln. was mixed with stoichiometric amt. of Ca(OH)2 and pH was adjusted to 7.8 with NaOH. Aliquots of ppt. was mixed with portland cement in the ratio 3 parts ppt. to 1 part cement and hydrated to form concrete. The resulting sample gave a leach rate of 1.4 ′ 10-3 g/cm2-day at 40° in a 3 day test. .
