DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 52 (Electrochemical, Radiational, and Thermal Energy Technology) Cd2SnO4 [12185-56-7] having a high transmittance for solar radiation and a high reflectance for thermal radiation is useful as a window for solar heat-absorbing systems. Thus, a solar-heat collector comprises an evacuated glass pipe having a layer of Cd2SnO4 on its inner wall and surrounding a steel pipe whose outer surface is coated with a material of high absorptivity for solar radiation. The steel pipe with a heat-transfer fluid flowing through it is located at the focal point of a parabolic reflecting trough in which the evacuated glass pipe is positioned.

CdS-Cu2S thin-film solar cells with conversion efficiencies >5% for front and rear illumination were fabricated. The reflection of transmitted light back through the cell increased the light generated current. Fabrication techniques are described and current-voltage and spectral response measurements are presented for frontwall and backwall modes of operation. .
