- Effect of purified soybean sterol on lipid metabolism in rats. Some chemicals with cas registry numbers like 60-33-3 and 57-88-5 are also used. Shibuya, Kaori; Hasegawa, Kyoko (Kagawa Nutr. Coll., Tokyo, Japan). Joshi Eiyo Daigaku Kiyo, 14, 173-9 (Japanese) 1983. CODEN: JEDKD7. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Weanling S. D. rats were fed for 10 days various exptl. diets with or without soybean sterol supplemented with triolein [122-32-7], trilinolein [537-40-6], linoleic acid [60-33-3], or butterfat as fat source. No differences of body wt. gain or feed efficiency were obsd. Plasma cholesterol [57-88-5] of the pure triolein group increased significantly and that of trilinolein with soybean sterol decreased significantly. Groups fed soybean sterol showed a tendency toward decreased plasma total cholesterol, except the group fed d-a-tocopherol [59-02-9] together with soybean sterol, but soybean sterol feeding had no effect either on high-d. lipoprotein cholesterol or free cholesterol. Hepatic total cholesterol was increased significantly by 5% supplementation of fat to the fat-free control diet, but administration of soybean sterol had no effect. Addn. of 3 mg% of d-a-tocopherol to the trilinolein diet increased the hepatic total cholesterol. Fecal cholesterol was increased significantly by the administration of soybean sterol. .
