The ease of sublimation followed in the order Basic Red 1 [989-38-8] > Basic Red 14 [12217-48-0] > Basic Red 38 [12221-62-4] > Basic Yellow 11 [4208-80-4], Basic Violet 3 [548-62-9] > Basic Red 13 [3648-36-0] > Basic Orange 21 [3056-93-7], Basic Blue 65 [57230-19-0]. The effect of mol. wt. was not large but sublimation was dependent on particle size or shape and polarity of the mols. Addn. of powd. Na2CO3 to powd. cationic dyes lowered the initiation temp. of sublimation. .

The mass spectra of Basic Orange 21 [3056-93-7], of known structure, was detd. for comparison.
