Ip., 38(6), 219-23 (Hungarian) 1984. CODEN: EMIPAB. ISSN: 0013-5909. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Softeners were ext. from alufoils and PVC [9002-86-2] foils with Et2O and detd. by TLC and gas chromatog. TLC was carried out on activated Silica Gel G, using isooctane-EtOAc (). Spot visualization was by exposure to I vapor, and subsequent treatment with thymol in H2SO4, or under UV light. Di-Bu phthalate [84-74-2], dioctyl adipate [123-79-5], di(2-ethylhexyl)adipate [103-23-1], and dioctyl sebacate [2432-87-3] were identified. Gas chromatog. was carried out using SE-30 on Chromosorb WHP (80-100 mesh), N as carrier gas, and a, flame-ionization detector. The polyamide-polyethylene foil, used for cheese packing, contained 1.0-1.5 mg softeners/dm2, mostly dioctyl adipate.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 77 (Magnetic Phenomena) A ferrofluid with a high concn. of suspended magnetic particles and a high degree of magnetization is prepd. by 1st treating the magnetite, Fe, ferrite, Co alloy, or similar magnetic particles with a low-b.p. org. solvent contg. a surfactant, sepg. off the particles which are not easily dispersed, mixing in a dispersing agent contg. oils, esters, or ethers, and evapg. the low-b.p. solvent out of the mixt. Thus, synthetic Fe3O4 particles were mixed with hexane and any H2O sepd. off, the dispersion was centrifuged to remove any unsuspended Fe3O4, polybutene and HLB 7,5 (polyoxyethylenenonylphenyl ether) surfactant were added, the hexane was boiled off at 90°, and the dispersion was centrifuged and decanted to give a ferrofluid.Except for chemicals metioned above, 123-79-5 and 1317-61-9 are also used. .
