DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 67 (Catalysis, Reaction Kinetics, and Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms) The catalytic activity of 7 Ir carbonyl cluster complexes for hydrogenation of cyclohexene in PhMe (at 30 atm H) is correlated with complex structures (triangular, tetrahedral, butterfly). Anionic, cationic, and neutral complexes were studied. The fate of these complexes after hydrogenation was detd. by IR spectroscopy. The more fragile clusters rearrange to the stable H4Os4(CO)12 form. Coordination unsatd. open structures (if thermally stable) exhibit higher catalytic activity and anionic clusters are more active than are cationic clusters. .
