Hiroshima-ken Byoin Yakuzaishikai Gakujutsu Nenpo, 20, 16-18 (Japanese) 1986. CODEN: HBYNDA. ISSN: 0388-2616. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Section cross-reference(s): 64 The steroid contents and stability were studied in various mixed ointments prepd. by mixing ZnO ointment with several com. steroid ointments, i.e., Rinderon VG [105778-14-1] (contg. betamethasone valerate and gentamycin), Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) [13609-67-1], Kenacort AG (triamcinolone) [124-94-7], and Nerisona (diflucortolone valerate) [59198-70-8]. The steroids were extd. and detd. by a previously reported method (Negatani, K.; et al., 1986). The recovery of steroids from the mixed ointment prepns. was not affected by the presence of ZnO. The ZnO-steroid mixed ointments were stable on storage at 5° and 30°, with the exception of the ZnO ointment-Locoid mixt. stored at 30°. Thus, the ZnO-Locoid ointment prepn. must be stored at 5°, whereas the other ZnO-steroid ointments studied may be prepd. ahead of time and stored at 30°.

- Glucocorticoid-induced elevation of serum high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and its reversal by adrenocorticotropin in the rat. Mitamura, Takeshi (Sch. Med., Hokkaido Univ., Sapporo 060, Japan). Biochim. Biophys. Acta, 917(1), 121-30 (English) 1987. CODEN: BBACAQ. ISSN: 0006-3002. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) The effect of administration of a high dose of glucocorticoid (triamcinolone [124-94-7]) on serum lipids and lipoproteins was studied in rats. Changes in serum lipids, esp. cholesterol [57-88-5], were most marked when 5 mg triamcinolone/kg was injected daily for 5 days. Serum lipoproteins were sepd. by ultracentrifugation followed by gel-filtration chromatog. Cholesterol distribution between apolipoprotein B-contg. lipoproteins (very-low-d. and low-d. lipoproteins), high-d. lipoprotein1 (HDL1), and HDL2 was detd. after administration of triamcinolone with or without addnl. treatment with ACTH (Cortrosyn [16960-16-0], 6 IU/rat). When triamcinolone was administered, cholesterol concns. in HDL1 and HDL2 were elevated in a dose-dependent manner, but there was no significant change in apolipoprotein B-contg. lipoprotein cholesterol levels. When ACTH was administered in combination with triamcinolone, the concns. of all serum lipids except triacylglycerol were significantly lowered compared with rats treated with triamcinolone alone. HDL1-cholesterol concn. in serum was significantly lowered from 69 mg/dL in triamcinolone-treated rats to 36 mg/dL by the administration of ACTH plus triamcinolone. The addnl. administration of ACTH in triamcinolone-treated rats caused a slight, but significant, decrease in cholesterol concn. in apolipoprotein B-contg. lipoproteins; however, HDL2-cholesterol level was not significantly affected, although there was a tendency for it to be lowered.
