DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal; General Review CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) A review with 52 refs. on the pharmacol. of bisacodyl (I) [603-50-9], oxyphenisatin (II) [125-13-3], and phenolphthalein derivs.
Transfer of sodium and water through isolated rat colonic mucosa under the influence of deoxycholate and oxyphenisatin
Transfer of sodium and water through isolated rat colonic mucosa under the influence of deoxycholate and oxyphenisatin. Wanitschke, R.; Nell, G.; Rummel, W.; Specht, W. (Inst. Pharmakol. Toxikol., Univ. Saarlandes, Homburg, Ger.). Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Arch. Pharmacol., 297(2), 185-90 (English) 1977. CODEN: NSAPCC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) The influence of oxyphenisatin (I) [125-13-3], a diphenolic laxative, and Na deoxycholate (DC) [302-95-4] on the transfer of Na and water in an everted sac prepn. of stripped rat colon was investigated. I (10-5 M, mucosal side) and DC (3 .times. 10-4 M, mucosal side) completely blocked net water and Na absorption. Net movements from the serosal to the mucosal side could not be induced by higher concns. of the drugs. Unidirectional Na movements in both directions were increased by I and DC. The effect of DC on the Na flux from the serosal to the mucosal side was reversible. The K content of the mucosal epithelium was not changed by DC and I. The integrity of the epithelium, as judged by light microscopy, was not disturbed by either drug under the exptl. conditions.Except for chemicals metioned above, 7440-23-5 and 302-95-4 are also used. Thus, DC and I do not interfere with active transport mechanisms but increase the permeability of the epithelium to Na. .
