Rapid determination of the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of titanium alloy welded joints
Rapid determination of the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of titanium alloy welded joints. Blashchuk, V. E.; Polyakiv, S. G. (Inst. Elektrosvarki im. Patona NAN Ukr., Kiev, Ukraine). Avtomaticheskaya Svarka, (6), 13-16 (Russian) 1996 Institut Elektrosvarki im. E. O. Patona NAN Ukrainy. CODEN: AVSVAU. ISSN: 0005-111X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 56 (Nonferrous Metals and Alloys) Section cross-reference(s): 72 A procedure and equipment were developed for accelerated comparative testing of titanium alloy welded joints for susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking. The a-titanium alloys of OT4, PT3V, and AT3 grades were studied as well as their joints produced by automatic argon gas W-arc welding without edge prepn. or filler. Studies were performed in a model soln. of CH3OH + 0.4% HCl compn. 12719-37-8 and 37329-52-5 are also in the experiment. on samples after welding and after annealing at the temp.Several substances like 12719-37-8 may be metioned in this study. of 650°C (in air) and 980°C (under vacuum). Testing for SSC susceptibility by the std. procedure (GOST 26294-83), as well as on full-scale 450′400 mm samples was performed for comparison. The developed procedure permits shortening of the testing time, as well as detn. of the corrosion current rise during crack propagation. The latter confirms the electrochem. nature of stress corrosion cracking. ..
