Concns. of radial aggregates of molybdenite occur in gangue of quartz and femic minerals. The Mo concn. in rocks and veins ranges 6-51528 ppm. The molybdenites contain Mo 58.55 and S 39.03%, corresponding to Mo3S2. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 53 (Mineralogical and Geological Chemistry) Molybdenite (Mb) [1309-56-4] in quartzofeldspathic metasomatites is assocd. with galena, zircon, tugarinovite, uraninite, musovite, feldspars, quartz, and graphite. Thin-tabular crystals of Mb belong to the hexagonal modification, with a0 0.3167 and c0 1.298 nm. The reflectance spectra of Mb is characterized by max. at wavelengths 380, 620-630, and 680 nm; those from hydrothermal stockwork bodies have max. at 490, 600, and 680 nm. Differences also exist in the optical properties of Mb from metasomatite (Mbm) and Mb from stockwork bodies (Mbs). Mbm Is characterized by a high content of Pb and U and moderate concns. of Fe, Cu, Mn, and Zn. The color parameters (X, Y, Z, etc.) of Mbm and Mbs are detd. In the oxidn. zone, Mbm is pseudomorphously replaced by wulfenite. .
