(n = 2,4,6,8,10,12) 170, and C12H25SH 2 g in 220 g MIBK were heated 1 h at 67-73°, mixed with 4 g 2,2'-azobis(2-methylbutanenitrile) in 20 g MIBK over 15 min, heated 18 h at 67-73°, and heated 1 h at 90° to give 438 g copolymer [94290-15-0] having 46.15% solids. The copolymer was dissolved in CF2ClCCl2F-Me2CO mixt. to give a soln. contg. 0.84 g copolymer, applied to nylon 66 fibers, heat set 2 min at 200° and washed 5 times to give samples having F retention 86% and oil/water repellencey 5/5.

The reaction of I with II was an overall 2nd-order reaction, being 1st order in I and the tertiary amine and 0 order in II. An intermediate ionic complex between II and the amine was formed in the reaction. .
