This chemical is also mentioned in this article. The proposed ISO name is azoxystrobin. The novel mode of action, based on the inhibition of the mitochondrial respiration of fungi, excludes the risk of cross resistance with existing a.i.'s and ensures effectiveness against diseases of all four major fungal groups. Azoxystrobin has a favorable to toxicol. and environmental profile. In cereals it has systemic and translaminar properties. Although the product is relatively slowly absorbed, the high intrinsic activity provides good disease control. Continued uptake of the spray deposit provides long lasting persistence resulting in prolonged retention of green leaf area and high yield increases. The product is evenly distributed into the leaves providing an excellent selectivity for the crop. ICIA5504 has been developed worldwide against many pathogens in several crops. In Belgium it has been developed on cereals. Two years of official and in house trials demonstrated the strengths of ICIA5504 on all major foliar diseases in barley and wheat. The product used along at 1 L/ha gave comparative or better yields than the best stds. Excellent activity was obsd. on Septoria species, net blotch, ear diseases and rusts. Good to moderate activity on leaf blotch and powdery mildew. Results on winter barley and winter wheat are discussed. .
