DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Administration of chloroquine sulfate (I sulfate) [132-73-0] (20-70 mg/kg, intraglossally) to frogs increased the amplitude of the electrocardiogram and the contractile force of the heart. Adrenaline and isoprenaline (.beta.-stimulants) produced a similar effect to that of I, whereas noradrenaline was much less effective. The changes induced by I originated in the midbrain and were mediated by the sympathetic nervous system, the transmitter being recognized as a .beta.-adrenergic agent.

The method was modified to det. the I salts in tablets and injections. The method was better and more convenient than the current British Pharmacopeia method. Common excipients and diiodohydroxyquinoline [83-73-8] do not interfere with the method.Except for chemicals metioned above, 83-73-8 and 50-63-5 are also used. .
