- Effect of arylmethane and benzidine dyes on self-purification of water
- Effect of arylmethane and benzidine dyes on self-purification of water. Timofeeva, S. S.; Kashina, N. F.; Shivernovskaya, O. A. (Irkutsk. Gos. Univ., Irkutsk, USSR). Deposited Doc., VINITI 1975-83, 93 pp. (Russian) 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 41 A method was developed for studying the effect of dyes on natural water self-purifn. based on published toxicity and biodegrdn. data, the direct relation between dye concn. and optical d., and known methods for detg. COD, BOD5, and NO3- in water. A lab study of the dynamics of degrdn. in river water of 4 basic (cationic) and 6 acidic (direct) dyes, used in the cellulose-paper industry, showed that the basic dyes were 50-80% degraded in 20 days vs. 5-10% for the direct dyes. Studies of changes in COD, BOD5, NO3--N, NH3-N, dissolved O, and other indicators showed that dye concns. of 0.001-0.1 mg/L had no effects on O, COD, or BOD5 and little effects on pH; however, many dyes, esp. direct dyes, affected ammonification and nitrification and on this basis ineffective doses were basic violet K [8004-87-3], basic brilliant green oxalate [36351-18-5], and direct turquoise lightfast [1330-38-7] 0.01, direct yellow K [1325-37-7] and basic blue K [2185-86-6] 0.001 mg/L. The ineffective concns. of the remaining was set at 0.001 mg/L based on their effects on mineralization.

Nauchno-Issled. Inst. Bum.: Moscow, USSR. (Russian) 1983. CODEN: 52TIAS. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) Section cross-reference(s): 41 Water-resistant green-colored paper was manufd. by coloring resin-modified paper with Lightfast Blue [36863-47-5] or Yellow K [1325-37-7] direct dye. Water-resistant surface-colored paper having relatively low resistance to wet treatment was manufd. by dyeing with direct dyes in the presence of glycosine [6873-15-0] or Epamine 06 [9064-35-1] resins.
