Kinetic parameters are given for the redn. of Cu2+ ions by HCHO, using the stabilizers of dodecyltrimethylammonium, cetyltriethylammonium, and dodecyltriethylammonium bromides.

These approaches involved addn. of flocculant followed by surfactant dewatering aids. Results of dewatering expts. have shown that cationic surfactant, such as cetyl tri-Et ammonium bromide, leads to cake moisture redn. from 21 to 11.7% and a significantly improved av. filtration rate. The economics of using flocculant filter aids, surfactant dewatering aids prior to thermal drying shows that oil cost saving per tonne of dry solid can be as high as Rs.179. .
