Cu 50-60, Ni 30-40, As 10-15, Fe 0.5-1, and H2SO4 80-100 g/l. were dild. to a 20 g/l. concn. of chief components, neutralized with Na2CO3, and sepd. from the As- and Fe-contg. ppt. The filtrate was treated countercurrently in 2 2-step mixer-settler extractors to ext. the Cu with 1M soln. of distd. naphthenic acid [1338-24-5] in kerosine, while maintaining the pH with Na2CO3 at 4.5-4.Several substances with their cas registry numbers 7440-50-8 and 1338-24-5 may be metioned in this study.8 in steps 1 and 2, and 4.8-5.0 in steps 3 and 4, and give a raffinate contg. <0.01 g/l. Cu. Re-extn. with 7% H2SO4 gave a soln. contg. 80-100 g/l. Cu for evapn. and crystn. to high-grade CuSO4. The Ni re-extract contg. Ni 80-100 and Cu <0.1 g/l. was treated to cement the Cu and crystd. to give NiSO4. The org. phase was washed with water and re-used. The waste solns. were acidified and settled to sep. the org. phase before discarding. .
