DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Triacetyloleandomycin [2751-09-9] and josamycin [16846-24-5], when administered to inbred Balb/c mice orally twice daily at a dose of 12.5 or 25 mg/kg over 3 days, increased barbiturate sleeping time significantly. In contrast, erythromycin ethylsuccinate [1264-62-6], erythromycin propionate [134-36-1], midecamycin [35457-80-8], and spiramycin [8025-81-8] were devoid of any such activity under the same conditions. The relationship of these results to the effect of macrolide antibiotics on drug-metabolizing enzymes and their drug-drug interactions are discussed. .

For erythromycin propionate [134-36-1] tablets the dissoln. began in the gastric media and ended 40 min later in intestinal fluid. For spiramycin [8025-81-8] and triacetyloleandomycin [2751-09-9] (250 mg each) dissoln. was complete in gastric juice by 30 min. The level of resorption after 30 min was greater with the latter than with the former.
