Studies on the flowing behavior of a thixotropic system using the stress strain method
Studies on the flowing behavior of a thixotropic system using the stress strain method. Mueller, Bernd W. (Lab. Pharm. Technol., State Univ. Groningen, Groningen, Neth.). Pharm. Ind., 39(9), 893-7 (German) 1977. CODEN: PHINAN. ISSN: 0031-711X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The flow mechanism of 2 thixotropic substances, (aq. bentone [1340-68-7] and cellulose [9004-34-6] suspensions) were described by measurements of stress-strain curves with the method of D.J. Doherty and R. J. Hurd (1958) in which the graphical presentation was modified by plotting the measured viscosity at low rates of shear against the time of thixotropic recovery. These curves could be described by root-functions only if the system showed a complete and reproducible destruction-reconstitution profile. In this case, different qualities of bentone could be characterized by rheol. measurements.
The control of settling of some water-soluble paints
The control of settling of some water-soluble paints. Ghanem, N. A.; Abd El-Mohsen, F. F.; Zayyat, S. El (Natl. Res. Cent., Cairo, Egypt). J. Oil Colour Chem. Assoc., 60(3), 87-92 (English) 1977. CODEN: JOCCAB. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Addn. of 0.5% Bentone [1340-68-7] to TiO2-pigmented alkyd paint was sufficient to effectively reduce the settling rate without unduly affecting film properties; a smaller amt. (0.25%) was not sufficient for proper pigment suspension. The paint was formulated with higher than normal solids content to accelerate the settling tests. When the pigment was redispersed after 5 months storage, the settling rate was greatly increased, probably due to flocculation during storage. A 2nd, slower method depended on the variation of sp. gr. of the paint at a selected depth as a function of solids content at that depth.Except for chemicals metioned above, 1340-69-8 and 12001-31-9 are also used. .
