III, 0.5 mol Li2CO3, and 158.3 g IV and the mixt. was heated 3 h at 265.degree./80-120 psig and worked up to give 50.6 g I having melt flow 1447 (ASTM D 1238-70), inherent viscosity 0.20 (0.4 g/dL .alpha.-ClC10H7 at 206.degree.), glass transition temp. 85.degree., and cryst. m.p. 283.degree.. For I prepd. similarly but the absence of Li2CO3 the values were 3843, 0.16, 84.degree., and 285.degree., resp.
