Ore drying and calcination at 500° did not decrease the transfer of Si into soln. but lowered the recovery of rare-earth metals. Acid solns. were neutralized to pH 4 for Th sepn. and contained 0.4-1.6 g SiO2/L. Pptn. of SiO2 was promoted by the addn. of Al(NO3)3 and prior boiling to give 0.02-0.2 g SiO2/L. Further removal of SiO2 was possible by partial pptn. of rare earth metals. .
