DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 46 (Surface Active Agents and Detergents) Section cross-reference(s): 40, 43 Mono- and bis(fluoroalkyl)phosphates, which form amine salts useful as surfactants and oil repellents, are prepd. in high yield by the reaction of 2-4 mol polyfluoro alcs. RZOH (R = C5-14 polyfluoroalkyl; Z = C1-4 alkylene) with 1 mol pyrophosphoryl halides, followed by hydrolysis. Thus, P2O3Cl4 was successively treated with C8F17CH2CH2OH and diethanolamine to give a product of av. compn. (C8F17CH2CH2O)1.5PO[OH.NH(C2H4OH)2]1.5, with triester content 3.0%. Paper treated with this product showed oil repellency 12, vs. 4 using a product prepd. similarly from POCl3, with trisester content 15.4%. .
