The resulting polymer was soaked in a 1% soln. of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol in MeOH, washed 2 times with the MeOH soln., filtered, and vacuum dryed at 90° to give I in 38% yield, with peak melting temp. 188°. Addn. of 5-tridecanol [58783-82-7] to the catalyst mixt. gave I in 63% yield with m.p. 164°. .
