Effects of postharvest treatments on ripening, carotenoids and quality of canned 'Babygold 7' peaches
Effects of postharvest treatments on ripening, carotenoids and quality of canned 'Babygold 7' peaches. Dekazos, Elias D. (Russell Agric. Res. Cent., ARS, Athens, GA 30613, USA). Proc. Fla. State Hortic. Soc., Volume Date 1983, 96, 235-8 (English) 1984. CODEN: PFSHA7. ISSN: 0097-1219. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Postharvest ripening treatments (ethephon [16672-87-0], fungicides, and storage conditions) of immature, Baby-gold 7 peaches (Prunus persica) accelerated ripening and color development and produced fruits of highest quality as measured by various quality parameters. Peaches contained more carotenoid than tree-ripened fruit and were practically decay-free. Lycopene [502-65-8] accumulation was stimulated and detected for the 1st time in tissue treated with 2-(4-chlorophenylthio)-triethylamine-HCl (CPTA) [13663-07-5]. Postharvest ripening produced fruit of comparable or better quality for canning than peaches harvested at optimum maturity and canned. Peaches held at 41° and 90% relative humidity (moist hot-air rooms) for 24 h before ripening at 27° and 90% relative humidity after ripening in 250 ppm ethephon for 1 min produced one of the most efficient methods of fruit ripening for canning.
Effects of two triethylamines on the carotenoids of Strelitzia reginae and of Hemerocallis flava
Effects of two triethylamines on the carotenoids of Strelitzia reginae and of Hemerocallis flava. Valadon, L. R. G.; Chapman, D. J. (Dep. Biol., Univ. California, Los Angeles, CA 90024, USA). Ann. Bot. (London), 53(5), 649-53 (English) 1984. CODEN: ANBOA4. ISSN: 0305-7364. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) A method for the successful uptake of 2 triethylamines, 2-(4-chlorophenylthio)-triethylamine-HCl (CPTA) [13663-07-5] and 2-(4-ethylphenyloxy)triethylamine (EPOT) [57586-08-0], by flowers of H. flava (yellow day-lily) and by sepals of S. reginae is described. CPTA is more effective than EPOT in causing lycopene [502-65-8] accumulation, through a different mechanism in the 2 plants studied. Whereas inhibition of cyclase(s) may account for lycopene accumulation in H. flava, this is not so in S. reginae. The permeability of the cell wall to the triethylamines may be one of the reasons for the differences obsd.
