DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Mg(OH)2, magaldrate [74978-16-8], F-MA 11 [56560-67-9], and dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate [13682-92-3] had acid neutralization rates of 7, 45, 60, and 163 5, resp., in the Reheis reaction velocity test. For compds. of high neutralization capacity the onset can be greatly improved by combination with another material having high reaction velocity. Adjuvants, esp. hydroxypropyl Me cellulose [9004-65-3] may affect antacid performance. The USP preliminary antacid test and acid neutralization test are not optimal in vitro tests to evaluate in vitro onset and duration of action of antacids.

The 1st anal. of 1st suspension showed a considerable variation in the Al concn. The 2nd anal., done 2 mo later after instructing the users of proper handling procedure, also indicated a nonuniform concn. despite the handling instructions. Though uniform concn. of the active ingredient was not found in the 2nd suspension, a formulation could be prepd., where the dosage uniformity and resuspendibility could be achieved. Some other related properties of these suspensions are also described.
