DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Bioactive saponins in 2 Chinese medicinal plants, Mussaenda pubescens and Clematis chinensis, were studied. Eighteen saponins were identified in M. pubescens, among which 17 were new compds., while 11 saponins were isolated from C. chinensis, of which 3 were new compds. Mussaendoside O, the most abundant saponin from M. pubescens, acted as a lachrymal and salivary gland M-ach receptor antagonist and showed immunoprotective and hemolytic activities. .
