- Alternate protein sources and supplemental B-vitamin requirements in rearing the sugarcane borer on a wheat germ diet. Brewer, F. D. (Bioenviron. Insect Control Lab., ARS, Stoneville, Miss., USA). J. Ga. Entomol. Soc., 12(4), 283-91 (English) 1977. CODEN: GENSAB. ISSN: 0016-8238. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Sugarcane borers Diatraea saccharalis were reared for 5 successive generations on wheat germ-based diets contg. a toasted defatted soybean flour, a yeast hydrolyzate, a cottonseed material, or oat material as the primary protein sources. Borers reared on diets contg. soybean flour or yeast hydrolyzate had more favorable development in 6 of the 8 parameters measured when compared to those fed on diets contg. the cottonseed material or oats. Single-deletion B-vitamin tests showed that Ca pantothenate [137-08-6], niacin [59-67-6], and riboflavin [83-88-5] were essential for growth, development, and reprodn.; omission of thiamin-HCl or vitamin B12 did not appreciably affect growth and development. Even when the total vitamin supplement was reduced by 90%, development was through 5 successive generations.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) b-Alanine [107-95-9], g-aminobutyric acid [56-12-2], and e-aminocaproic acid [60-32-2] were converted to Me, Et, and Pr esters of their N-trifluoroacetyl derivs. and then identified by gas chromatog. Dimethylglycine [1118-68-9] was detected by gas chromatog. in calcium pangamate [11041-98-8] and b-alanine in calcium pantothenate [137-08-6].
