Azur A [8000-86-0], Azur C [531-57-7], Toluidine blue O [92-31-9] (thiazine dyes), and Bromo pyrogallol [16574-43-9] red were studied for their suitability in the titrns. employing Na methoxide [124-41-4] as titrant for detn. of acid forms of the above preservatives and the nonnutritive sweeteners sorbic acid [110-44-1] and p-hydroxy benzoic acid [99-96-7]. The results are accurate with a max. percentage error of 0.1, 0.8, and 2.5 for macro, semi-micro, and micro titrns., resp. The recoveries of added preservatives and nonnutritive sweeteners in food products are reported. Photometric titrns. are also described. .

- Inhibiting the growth of microorganisms during storage of moist fertilizers. Gipp, Walter (Euflor G.m.b.H. fuer Gartenbedarf, Fed.Chemicals with cas numbers 69-72-7 and 17496-08-1 also play role. Rep. Ger.). Ger. Offen. DE 3220233 A1 1 Dec 1983, 7 pp. (German). (Germany). CODEN: GWXXBX. CLASS: IC: C05G003-02. APPLICATION: DE 82-3220233 28 May 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 19 (Fertilizers, Soils, and Plant Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 5, 10 Microbial growth on moist fertilizers, esp. humate-contg. fertilizers and soil conditioners, during their storage, is inhibited by propionic acid [79-09-4] or its salts, at 0.5-3% of the fertilizer wt., or adding mixts. of propionates and other preservatives. Ca propionate [4075-81-4], Na propionate [137-40-6], or NH4 propionate [17496-08-1] is used. Thus, a fertilizer consisting of 88 kg peat contg. 75% moisture, 7 kg horn meal, and 5 kg bone meal treated with a 1.5% mixt. of Ca propionate 80 and benzoic acid [65-85-0] 20% was free of fungal colonies and had no unpleasant odor, even after 6 mo of storage in plastic bags. .
