Thus, a soln. of Sb2O3 in excess 50% KOH was added to Na3SbS4 [13776-84-6] and dild. with HCl and H2O. After neutralization with HCl, the slurry was stirred 1 h at 95.degree., washed to remove Cl-, and dried at 75.degree. to yield Sb2S4 [12359-48-7] complex. In the Shell 4-ball test, the weld points of samples of a Li diester grease contg. 5% amorphous Sb2S4, cryst. Sb2S3, or MoS2 were 600, 355, and 140 kg loads, resp. When placed on the abraded skin of rabbits, the Sb2S4 complex produced erythema and edema with complete recovery in 2 weeks, compared with the arsenic thioantimonate, which produced erythema, edema, and ecchymosis from which there was very little recovery in 2 weeks.
