Vaporization thermodynamics of europium dibromide. Haschke, John M. (Rocky Flats Plant, Rockwell Int., Golden, Colo., USA). High Temp. Sci., 9(2), 77-84 (English) 1977. CODEN: HITSAC. ISSN: 0018-1536. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 69 (Thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, and Thermal Properties) Pressures of monomeric EuBr2 [13780-48-8] in equil. with the congruently vaporizing liq. were measured by a target collection effusion method. At 1200-1512 K, the pressures are described by the equation: log PEuBr2 (atm) = [(-15081 ± 154)/T] + (6.84 ± 0.11). Second-law values for the sublimation process are: DH298° = (83.5 ± 2.1) kcal mol-1, and DS298° = (48.6 ± 2.2) cal deg-1 mol-1. The temp.-independent 3rd-law enthalpy of sublimation is (82.6 ± 2.0) kcal mol-1. A vaue for D0° of EuBr2 (g) was estd. and the thermodn. of formation of the condensed and gaseous dibromide were calcd. Exptl. difficulties with a previous measurement and uncertainties in the S298° values of the condensed and gaseous europium dihalides are discussed.
