The amt. of amino acid hydrochloride added was 5-130% of the wt. of II present in the compn. For example, capsules filled with a mixt. of I 227, phenacetin 162, caffeine 32, II 65, and L-glutamic acid hydrochloride (III) [138-15-8] 74 g contained only 0.67% free salicylic acid after storage for 4 days at 50.degree., whereas capsules filled with the same compn. lacking only III contained 2.28% free salicylic acid, indicating a much greater extent of I hydrolysis occurred in the absence of III.

The adsorption of NH3 on a crystal coated with an alc. ext. of Capiscum annum pods was a linear function of the logarithm of the NH3 concn. (0.001-10 mL NH3/m3 air) after coating materials for the crystal are AgNO3, ascorbic acid [50-81-7], L-glutamic acid-HCl [138-15-8]. The selective detection of H2S in the atm. was based on the adsorption of H2S on the surface of a piezoelec. quartz crystal coated with Me2CO ext. of soots resulting from burning organochlorine compds. Crystals coated with Me3N.HCl [593-81-7] were used for detection of HCl.
