Antiphage activity of complexes of platinum and palladium
Antiphage activity of complexes of platinum and palladium. Zakharova, I. A.; Moshkovskii, Yu. Sh.; Suraikina, T. I.; Fonshtein, L. M. (Inst. Some commonly used reagents like 17030-12-5 and 13844-89-8 are used in this experiment. Obshch. Neorg. Khim. im. Kurnakova, Moscow, USSR). Koord. Khim., 2(12), 1642-5 (Russian) 1976. CODEN: KOKHDC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Pd-contg. complexes showed stronger antiphage activity against bacterophage T4 than did their Pt-contg. analogs, and in both series the complexes contg. metal ions of +2 valence were more active than those with metal ions of +4 valence. The inhibitory activity of the acidoligands decreased in the order: -NO2 > -Cl > -Br > -CNS > -I. Addn. of chelate-forming ligands, such as ethylenediamine or thyroxine, eliminated the antiphage activity of both metals. Inclusion of 2 ammonia ligands completely eliminated the antiphage activity of Pt but not that of Pd, indicating that the Pt-N bond is stronger than the Pd-N bond. The mechanism of reaction of these complexes with bacteriophage DNA and protein is discussed. .
