DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 80 (Organic Analytical Chemistry) The color change of a Ag2HgI4-Cu2HgI4 solid soln. may be used for end point detection in catalytic thermometric titrimetry. The use of a solid soln. contg. 43 mol% Cu2HgI4 as an indicator was illustrated in the titrn. of benzoic acid dissolved in acrylonitrile-DMSO with K butoxide in BuOH. The results show the possibility of using thermochromic substances as a new kind of visual indicator in titrimetry. They may be employed in the cases where a suitable change in temp. occurs at the end point of the titrn. .

Preparation techniques and high-pressure phase diagram of copper mercury iodide (Cu2HgI4). DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 75 (Crystallography and Liquid Crystals) Section cross-reference(s): 69 Samples of Cu2HgI4 which were prepd. by 2 different procedures were compared by applying DSC to the order-disorder transition at 343 K. A pore sample gives a single DSC peak, while an addnl. small peak indicates that some impurity was introduced during the prepn. of the sample. DSC at high pressure was used to det. the phase diagram between 300 and 600 K in the range up to 1 GPa. For the order-disorder transition both the temp. and the enthalpy depend linearly on the pressure: T(p) = 343 + 33.2 p and DH = 7.96 -3.57 p, which the pressure p is the GPA and the enthalpy in kJ/mol. A transition which exists only a discontinuity in the heat capacity occurs at 576 K at normal pressure and its temp. decreases with increasing pressure dT/dp = -112 K/GPa. Comparisons are made with the recently detd. phase diagram of Ag2HgI4. .
